Before you send a 3MF, see what it says about you.
A 3MF project holds more than geometry. The slicer also records an account name, save dates, folder paths on your computer, sometimes your printer's API key. This lists every item and removes the ones you pick, right in your browser.
How it works
It removes words, never geometry.
A 3MF is a ZIP package of XML and settings files. The tool opens the package right in your browser, reads the model description, the project settings and the list of images, and shows what it found, group by group.
Cleaning blanks each value in place — the element that held it stays, so the slicer still finds the structure it expects. Parts nothing touches are copied byte for byte. Only the images group removes whole files, and then every reference to them goes too.
After cleaning, the tool re-scans the file it just wrote and tells you whether anything is left. ZORVA tried it on a MakerWorld project saved by Bambu Studio 2.8: with every group removed, it still opened and sliced to G-code identical to the original's.
Will it still print the same?
Yes. Geometry, print settings, materials and plate layout are untouched. The only visible change is the preview images, if you chose to remove them — the slicer redraws them on its next save.
Why would a 3MF hold a printer API key?
OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer save the printer settings into the project, and printer settings can include an OctoPrint or Moonraker address plus the key used to send jobs over the network. Anyone with that key who can reach the printer can control it. Bambu Studio projects usually leave these empty; the tool only reports them when they actually hold something.
Should I remove the licence?
For your own model, that's your call. For a model you downloaded, don't — the licence is the condition under which you may use and share it, and deleting it from the file doesn't change that condition. That's why this group is off by default.
What about STL files?
STL carries almost no metadata — just an 80-character header, usually the name of the program that exported it. The risk is in 3MF, because it is a whole project, not just a shape.
